All the small things: Food edition
November 8, 2009I rag on Vancouver a lot. But in the four plus years I’ve spent here, it hasn’t been all that bad. I mean, we’re a week into November and there has been no snow. None. Take that, Edmonton.
Sure, the city is cliquey and each neighbourhood scorns the next one for being not so different from itself, but even I can’t deny what a beautiful region this is. Do I defend Vancouver with the same vigor as my hometown? Of course not. But maybe it is because Edmonton needs a little more help, more boosterism. Heh.
With some friends coming out here this week, I thought I’d write a post about some of my favourite things.
So, A and V… hopefully one of these places gets on your “Things to do in YVR” List.
Favourite things to eat:
If it’s a cold day: Burgoo (My favourites include the tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich, the mac and cheese or the cheese-laden french onion soup)
If you want a meat coma: Memphis Blues
If you want to feel un-hip but can only eat vegetables after your meat coma: The Foundation
If you want a comprehensive pancake list: Dutch Wooden Shoe Cafe
If you want a comprehensive waffle list (to-go): Patisserie Lebeau
If you want your fish and chips so fresh, so meaty, and so good: Go Fish
If you want sushi the size of your fist: Samurai Sushi House
If you want Korean sushi filled with things like ham and cheese: Kimbob E Ramyum
If you want schnitzel: Balkan House
If you want to go to my favourite restaurant, French cuisine at a reasonable price: Les Faux Bourgeois
If you want a choice of 219 flavours of Gelato: Casa Gelato
If you want to watch an Oilers game (Le sigh.) while eating: The Black Frog
Coming tomorrow… Shopping, wandering and the rest of Vancouver.
