Sleepless early mornings

August 5, 2009

ferryI used have problems with a patch of wakefulness every morning.  It was from about 3:30-5:00am.  For months I would watch my old roommate walk past my window as he left for work as a bread delivery man in the early hours of the day.

For a while, I would do a lot of writing during these hours, but was afraid I was programming myself to be awake then.  I tried sleep therapy, I got a new bed, but nothing seemed to work except a change of scenery.  When I moved, it went away, for a while.  It came back at The Lair (my Commercial Drive apartment) and again at Le Attic.   I’ve been good for four months here… but if the last week is any indication…

I may be in for another long few months.

My auto-wake also happens at 8:30 every morning.   No matter when I go to bed, it seems nearly impossible to sleep in.

What am I getting at?  I have no idea.  I guess I’m just complaining about being tired and the lack of things to do at 3:30am.

Any readers have sleep tips?  Why am I waking up?  How can I sleep through the night?

  1. I have sleeping issues too – nothing really helps me other than sleeping pills, and it freaks me out to take them too regularly.

If you find any answers, let me know. Please.

  2. I sometimes go through periods where I wake up at 4 or 5 in the morning and can’t fall back asleep, but I know this happens because I’m stressed out about something. I usually go back to sleeping normally once I figure out what I’m stressing about.

    Don’t know if this helps…

    • You know what’s crazy? Yesterday I was hit by a crapload of stress. Overtime at work, lots of duties, some decisions to make in my life… yet, slept like a baby.
